I'm going to start with the good because I don't want you all to worry about what the bad could possibly be. It's semi-baby related (okay, maybe more than I'm letting on), but the baby is fine and perfect and looking like a real person now! Yesterday's ultrasound showed that baby is no longer a little blob like it was 2 short weeks ago... it's a thriving healthy person with an alien head, two arms, and two legs. Hehe... aaaaand I can already see a cute little baby belly. I was amazed at how much my little one has changed. I noticed immediately that it looks like a gummy bear, to which I told myself I can not eat any gummy bears in this pregnancy now... it's just too weird.
Okay, the much-anticipated 10-week ultrasound pictures!
I'm struggling with this and literally lost sleep over it last night. I work in Nashville, which means Smyrna is only about 15 minutes from my work (on a good day)... so going to appointments won't be an issue. Delivery, however, will be... I don't know what to do. I'm sad that I have to make this decision. She told me that I was the first patient she thought of when she put in her resignation... *sigh*... she isn't 100% sure when this is happening, but it'll be the end of this year or beginning of next... I don't see her again until November 10 for my 16 week appt and I hope she has more news for me then and that I can make a sound decision. I've been told by more than one person that a good OB is too hard to come by... and if you have one that you connect with, follow them if you can.
I'll update you all later on this development... hopefully I make the right decision.

Beautiful pictures of baby!!! Looking good!
ReplyDeleteIf the furthest she is from you is just an hour, I'd say stick with her.
I know you said delivery will be an issue. Is that because of drive time or her unavailability in case of an emergency?
As long as everything stays healthy during your pregnancy, there is little reason to assume you'll have to get to the hospital as quickly as possible (and if the health-status of your pregnancy changes, you can always reconsider). You might have contractions in the car for that hour, but labor takes lots of time in *most* cases. And, heck, if you end up having a scheduled induction or c-section, all the easier!
DH and I lived in a small town for a couple years. While our local hospital provided OB care (mediocre), it is was much more common for pregnant women to choose OB services in the city 75 minutes away. It isn't impossible and can be done.
Make the decision you feel the most comfortable with :) GL!
I love the ultrasound pics. How amazing is that! I'm always shocked at how fast babies grow. I bet it was an amazing feeling to see those pics. How lucky you are! :0)
ReplyDeleteThat's got to be a hard choice to make. I would feel the same way about my OB if she helped me get pregnant. I know whatever choice you make, you'll make the right one for you and your baby. Good luck!
well, you already know my thoughts. and i agree with the previous poster that you will have plenty of time once you go into labor to get to the hospital. people do have quick labors sometimes, but almost NEVER with a first pregnancy. and i had to go to the hospital twice while pregnant before delivery and it wasn't a big deal. (i mean, i passed out once and then was having really bad pains the other time and that was bad but i just meant, it wasn't hard to get someone to my house and take me to the hospital) if you really, really love her and want to share this experience with her, then do it! ^_^
ReplyDeleteyeah I agree I would stay with her even if the drive is a little further, I think all will be fine in the end, but I wouldnt give up on the one that has helped you so much! He will give you peace if you put it in his hands!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=astISOttCQ0 To cheer you up.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your OB leaving, but YAY about the u/s and everything looking wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteOH No!! I'm so sorry to hear that Jessi! I know how that feels though - Man that stinks! What is going on with NC OB's? Something funny must be in the air! First Dr. Jack, now her?! Must be the CFWH too???
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry. Maybe she will stick around long enough to delivery your baby!
Your baby looks great! I love US pictures! I think I've had 4 so far and another scheduled in 3 weeks (b/c they couldn't get a few views of the spine last time.)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your OB leaving. I'm sure that will be a hard decision on whether to follow her or find someone else. I switched to a different one when I found out I was pregnant and left the RE in Nashville. I found her on the internet from great reviews. Her name is Nicole Schlecter, and she's at "Women's" which is at Baptist, but I'm delivering at Centennial. She's a "little bundle of energy!" A lot of the other reviews about her said she seems more like a friend than a doctor, and while I'm still getting to know her, I can see that will be true.
