Boo to the wind. Yay for insurance!

A few weeks ago, a pretty heavy storm blew through TN with 50 mph winds, doing damage to a number of homes. Glenn and I were very lucky compared to some, but we just found out that we need a new roof. Luckily, Farm Bureau has it covered. :)

I called the insurance company last week because a metal piece blew off the house in the storm. it was the only thing very noticable. I wanted someone to come look at it... I couldn't tell if the roof itself needed any assistance, I just knew no shingles blew off. Some of our screen on the porch got ripped up but luckily that is an easy & inexpensive fix. The roof has several shingles that are loose from the wind damage. The insurance guy showed me all the spots and once I knew what to look for, I was floored. Luckily, they're cutting us a check for the estimated cost of a new roof, minus the $500 deductable, and we are now in the market for a roofer. Luckily x2, we go to church with 3 different people who are in the roofing business. Hallelujah!

Since we got the house, there have been a few large updates happening and luckily it hasn't costed us anything yet. We got the new AC/Heat unit installed by the seller before we moved in, now our insurance is getting us a new roof... the only big thing we have left for now, that is definitely coming out of pocket, is the new drive way.

Our current one is basically a crater, ha. It got washed away in December, right after we got the keys. We feel guilty that anyone has to even endure driving down and up it, so we are getting it smoothed out and new gravel with our tax return. We need to dig a ditch alongside the driveway to divert any rain water in the future.

You can see in these pictures where it got washed away... see, there it goes. Weee.... it was perfect for white water rafting. I was sad when it happened, but a gravel driveway isn't nearly as expensive as paving, so we can do it with the tax return.
Outside of the scary electric bills, we love the house. :) God is good and providing!
